OmniVision OV2722 Chip Specs, Best Front Camera With 1080p

OmniVision announced a new image sensor OmniVision OV2722 chip that could make you look a lot better on your next smartphone or tablet video chat The new sensor is both thinner and better in low light than an earlier iteration, so we'll hopefully see fewer instances of blurrycam self-portraits and video calls.

The OV2722 is in mass production now for unnamed clients, although we're worried that the resolution jump will show us a little too much detail in that chat with Aunt Mildred.

The OV2722 is a 1/6-inch native 1080p HD CMOS image sensor, offering full field of view video with optimized image quality, sensitivity, color reproduction and clarity without scaling or cropping. Built on the new 1.4-micron OmniBSI+ pixel, the OV2722 offers significant performance improvements over the first generation, OmniBSI™-based OV2720, including a 60 percent increase in full-well capacity, a 10 percent increase in quantum efficiency and a 10 percent improvement in low-light performance. Additionally, the OV2722 is designed to fit extremely thin modules with a z-height of less than 3 mm, while maintaining pin-to-pin compatibility with its predecessor, making it a drop-in replacement for system designers.

The OV2722 supports multiple platform architectures and controllers with both parallel and MIPI interfaces. It allows system designers to leverage the same opto-electrical design across various products and multiple market segments to reduce product development time. Exposure control, white balance and defective pixel canceling are programmable through the serial camera control bus (SCCB) interface.

OmniVision says its OV2722 camera chip can eliminate the tradeoff entirely, allowing for full HD picture quality from both rear and front cameras on even the thinnest devices.

"We believe that current market trends are quickly moving beyond 720p, and we are seeing strong demand for premium quality 1080p HD video sensors that can meet the criteria and specifications of online video sharing platforms such as Skype, and unified communications platforms such as Microsoft Lync," said OmniVision director of product marketing Nick Nam.

"In addition, many high-end cameras are required to have extremely small form factors so that they can fit inside next-generation smartphones, tablets, notebooks and Ultrabooks. The OV2722 is specifically crafted to meet these stringent performance requirements and design specifications, making it the ideal choice for these high-end devices."

Specs and Speed of the apple's a5 iphone chip

About apple's a5 iphone chip
Leading up to this Friday's launch of the iPhone 4S, AppleInsider will offer a closer look at some of the features of the next-generation handset. Given that the 'S' in the device's moniker was never officially defined by Apple, we offer five potential definitions. Today: 'S' is for Speed, thanks to the Apple A5 processor.

Apple's A5 chip, which powers the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, is now being produced in a Texas factory owned by Samsung, Reuters reports, citing sources familiar with the operation.

Until now, Apple has mainly relied on Korean and Chinese manufacturers that produced the chips for Apple's products on their soil.

Samsung's new $3.6 billion plant in Austin is the size of nine football fields (1.6 million square feet), and it's almost solely dedicated to producing Apple chips.

Speed of the apple's a5 iphone chip
Speed of the apple's a5 iphone chip with The 45 nm Apple A5 chip runs on either 800 MHz or 1 GHz clock speed, and it's twice as powerful -- according to Apple -- as its predecessor, the A4.
  • The Apple A5 chip is a dual-core chip that allows CPU speeds up to twice as fast as the iPhone 4
  • It also features dual-core graphics processing that is up to seven times faster
  • The iPhone 4S has increased battery life up to 8 hours.
  • A new wireless system in the iPhone 4S allows the handset to intelligently switch between two antennas to send and receive data, improving call quality.
  • With its new system, Apple says the iPhone 4S achieves maximum theoretical download speeds of 14.4Mbps.
  • Apple said these speeds are competitive with current 4G networks.
  • The iPhone 4S also sports an 8-megapixel sensor for improved picture taking.
  • A new illuminated sensor gets 73 percent more light than the one found in the iPhone 4, and does it a third faster.
  • A high-end IR filter allows for greater accuracy and uniformity, while the handset also offers industry-leading quickness in snapping a photo.
  • The new camera will also shoot full-high-definition 1080p video, and will feature real-time video image stabilization and temporal noise reduction.
  • In one demo, Apple exec Scott Forstall asked the iPhone 4S to find a Greek restaurant in Palo Alto, Calif. The built-in Siri software returned a list of five restaurants sorted by rating.
  • Siri can also read information to users. In one example, the software read a list of notifications from the iPhone 4S.
  • The Siri system can also be utilized to make calendar appointments. It will even check if a user's schedule is free when setting up an appointment, and notify them of potential conflicts.
  • Information from Wikipedia and Wolfram Alpha can also be accessed through voice commands in Siri.
  • In another demonstration, Forstall asked Siri how long until Christmas. The "personal assistant" software responded: "82 days."
  • Siri also does dictation, as a microphone icon will appear anytime there is a keyboard on the screen. By tapping the microphone, users can speak rather than type.
  • Siri will come with built-in support for English, French and German. The software will be beta at launch, with more languages and services to be added over time.
